How does the program work?
Simply put, get rewarded for reading! To participate, create an account on our summer reading website, ReadSquared, at egpl.readsquared.com. Once you are registered, you can start to log your reading.
How do I register? Visit egpl.readsquared.com and register by filling out the requested information. Children 13 and under will require parent’s permission. One (1) parent can have their child(ren) linked to their account. The parent can choose to keep one user name and password for the whole family or a parent can decide to give a separate user name and password to each child. Parents are automatically enrolled in the Adult Summer Reading Program. They can then choose if they would like to continue with the program. We encourage parents to participate and be great reading models for their children. How do I log my summer reading?
Log into egpl.readsquared.com using your user name and password. Click on “Logging” on the left side. Click “Log Reading” and then select minutes or books. Children and teens will log minutes (with an option to log the book title and author), adults will log books. If you are a parent with your child(ren) linked to your account, simple select the name(s) you are logging for and click “submit”. What counts towards your reading log? Any books you read! Whether it is a new book, a book you read again, a magazine, comic book, etc. Being read too, listening to audio books, attending storytimes and listening to storytellers count too! You pick books that interest you! What are missions?
Missions are optional activities that will challenge you in new ways. For each mission you mark as complete, you will earn extra points towards your summer reading program. Thus, allowing you to earn more raffle tickets and complete the program faster! New missions will be posted periodically, so be sure to check them weekly! Who can participate in the Summer Reading Program? Everyone! We have a summer reading program for tots, children, teens and adults! What does the ReadSquared Website offer? This website allows you to log your reading, track your progress in the Summer Reading Program, collect digital badges, earn weekly raffle tickets to win prizes, personalize your own avatar, write and submit book reviews, complete missions, play games, and provides book reading lists and recommendations. How long is the program? The program runs from June 8-August 22, 2020. What is this year’s theme? Imagine Your Story: Fairytales, Fables and Mythology. Reading books encompassing this theme is encouraged but not required. The theme will also be integrated in the East Granby Public Library’s summer programming. Is there an app I can use? Yes. You can download the free ReadSquared app onto your electronic device. This app gives you the same functionalities as the ReadSquared website. Can I get reminders to log my reading? Yes, you can opt in to receive daily reminders to log your reading via text messages! Simply log into your ReadSquared Account, select the drop-down arrow on the righthand side by “ACCOUNT”. Select “Texting Options”. Fill in the requested fields to continue. Note message and data rates may apply. How many times should I log my reading? You should log your reading daily. Keep in mind the more you log, the more chances you have to earn a weekly raffle ticket. How many minutes can I log a day? The system will allow you to log as many as 300 minutes for kids/teens a day. For adults, up to 3 books a day. How do I enter the raffles? For each 100 points you earn, you will be automatically entered in our weekly raffle. How do I know if I win a prize and how do I claim a prize? Raffle winners will be generated by the system at the end of each week. If you are a lucky winner, a librarian will notify you and contact you to schedule a pick up time. Raffle prizes can be picked up during library business hours via our curbside pick-up service. How can I get points for attending a library program? You may obtain points for attending a library program if the program is a listed mission. After attending the program, log into your account, go to the “Missions Page” and fill in the necessary info and click “Complete Now.” Once marked completed, any points that were assigned to that mission will be applied to your account. Can I use the school’s summer reading paper log instead? You are more then welcome to keep track of summer reading using the school’s paper logging sheet. In order to earn digital badges and weekly raffle tickets to win prizes, you most also log your minutes into the ReadSquared website. If I forget to log my reading, can I back date my reading logging entries? Currently this is not an option. If you forget to log your minutes for the prior day, we recommend you tally them into your next entry. But please note only 300 minutes can be logged a day. To help you remember, you can opt in to receive a text message to log your reading. Why join a summer reading program? Not only is it fun, the Summer Reading Program encourages children and adults to continue reading and to develop lifelong learning skills. Children will mitigate any summer learning loss, improve reading skills and increase their desire to read. Adults will improve their concentration and exercises their brains. Additionally, according to the School Library Journal, those who participate develop an interest in reading, improve their comprehension, and further develop their memory skills. Reading content material even becomes more interesting. |
